This Privacy Policy explains what data Lose5 ("the app", "we") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Lose5 is published by Søren Steen — contact us.
We have built Lose5 to collect as little personal data as possible. You do not need to create an account to use the app.
Lose5 stores the following information locally on your iPhone:
This data stays on your device unless you have iCloud sync enabled.
If iCloud is signed in on your device, Lose5 uses Apple's CloudKit to sync the data above between your own Apple devices. The data is stored in your personal iCloud container, encrypted in transit and at rest, and is not accessible to us. We cannot read or recover the contents of your iCloud container.
You can disable sync at any time in iOS Settings → [your Apple ID] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud → Lose5.
When you ask the app to estimate a meal from a photo or text description, the photo or text is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards it to a third-party AI provider to generate the estimate. The request contains only the meal you submitted — it does not include your name, email, weight, or any other profile data. The estimate is returned to your device and the request is not stored on our server after the response is delivered.
If you log a meal manually (the "manual entry" path), no data leaves your device.
With your permission, Lose5 reads your weight entries from Apple Health and writes the energy content of meals you log back to Apple Health. This data exchange happens on your device only. You can grant or revoke each permission in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Lose5.
If you purchase Lose5 Premium, the purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive only an anonymous transaction identifier so the app knows your subscription is active. We do not receive your name, email, or payment details.
Lose5 sends local notifications (meal reminders, milestone celebrations, weekly summaries). These are scheduled on your device and never go through a remote server. You can disable notifications in iOS Settings → Notifications → Lose5.
Lose5 does not include any analytics SDKs, advertising trackers, or crash-reporting services. We do not track you across apps or websites. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing.
Because your data lives on your device and in your iCloud, you control retention. To delete all data, open the Settings tab in Lose5 and tap "Delete all data", then uninstall the app. To remove iCloud copies, disable Lose5 in iOS Settings → [your Apple ID] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud, and confirm "Delete from iCloud" when prompted.
Lose5 is not directed at children under 13 (under 16 in the EU/EEA) and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will help you delete any associated data.
Depending on where you live (GDPR in the EU/EEA, CCPA in California, and similar laws elsewhere), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Because Lose5 stores almost all data on your device, you can exercise these rights directly inside the app. For any request we are responsible for, contact us and we will respond within 30 days.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be announced inside the app or on this page, and the "Effective date" at the top will be updated.
